This book had such a sad ending, poor Diane. ( ) I've enjoyed Megan Abbott's other books, but this one . . . not so much. It's very dark, which I usually like, but I felt like I needed to take a shower after I finished reading it. The characters are all thoroughly unlikeable, slippery, enigmatic, and annoying, although I think a lot of that was Ms. Abbott's writing style which seemed unnecessarily loopy at times rather than straightforward. This was probably my least favorite of her novels. This was a really interesting thriller/character study! The start was kind of unusual and it took me a little while to figure out what sort of book I was getting into, but I ended up really enjoyed it. The present-day segments were really engaging. Kit and Diane are scientists in a lab researching bio-genetics, which was unique and well-researched, with a great cast of characters, and once the story got churning, it was impossible to put down. I always look for books with a unique setting and premise and this had one for sure! aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"Kit Owens harbored only modest ambitions for herself when the mysterious Diane Fleming appeared in her high school chemistry class. But Diane's academic brilliance lit a fire in Kit, and the two developed an unlikely friendship. Until Diane shared a secret that changed everything between them. More than a decade later, Kit thinks she's put Diane behind her forever, and she's begun to fulfill the scientific dreams Diane awakened in her. But the past comes roaring back when she discovers that Diane is her competition for a position both women covet: taking part in groundbreaking new research led by their idol. Soon enough, the two former friends find themselves locked in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse that threatens to destroy them."--Dust jacket. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
