I've been reading romances lately as they're relatively light: great things to have around when your mental health breaks down and then you get Covid-19. However, I think I may have reached the end of my tolerance level with books that are just romances, and lacking in other plot lines.

Alexa and Drew meet when they get stuck in an elevator together. They fall into bed together at the first opportunity, enjoy each other's company and all the sex, and start travelling back and forth between L.A. and Berkeley on the weekends. However, Alexa finds out from a bevy of Drew's exes that he's a great guy to date but that he runs shy every time committment looms. So Alexa, in love with Drew, runs first in order that she not get hurt. Will they find their way back to one another?

It wasn't a bad story for what it was, but as I say, I'm tired of romantic novels and want to read something else, and this story suffered under my wishes for meatier novels. ( )

If you are looking to escape into a romance with lots of sex, this book is a good choice. The story held my attention, the characters were likable but a little flat, the writing was good. Perfect beach read material. ( )

I just watched Prince Harry get married and I was in a wedding mood so it was serendipitous that my library hold on this book came through on the same day.

This is a complete puff piece of a book. Beautiful, smart, successful people who meet cute and fall madly in love while eating a lot of junk food and having a ton of sex. There's some slight depth thrown in from time to time about racial issues (she's black and he's white) and old family drama with her sister plus he's a pediatric surgeon so there are some brushes with sick children but really 99% of this is them being hot for each other. Which is pretty much fine by me in my current headspace.

Excellent beach book, airplane book, "having a bad day need to zone out" book. I don't think it's trying to be anything else and it succeeds at what it is.

These thirty-something protagonists are professional people, but they act like randy teenagers with a case of arrested development. Alexa and Drew meet in an elevator when a power outage traps them there. There is some witty repartee on their parts, and before they part ways, Drew has asked Alexa to be his plus-one at a wedding he is attending, and she becomes his fake girlfriend for the weekend. This book had so much potential, but it’s all downhill from here. They go through a series of getting together, getting mad at each other, getting back together etc. They act like high schoolers instead of the adults they are. Lots of sex in this fluffy romcom, but not much plot or character development. ( )

The best thing about this book for me was that it felt mostly very realistic. There weren't any ridiculous obstacles to the relationship -- just plain old people getting in their own way. ( )
