This program is read by the author and an exciting cast of readers including Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg. Also included are the winning fan submissions from the Macmillan Audio When to Jump contest.
An inspirational audiobook that lays out the "Jump Curve" â?? four steps to wholeheartedly pursuing the career of your dreams â?? through experiences from a variety of people who have jumped and never looked back
When Mike Lewis was twenty-four and working in a prestigious corporate job, he eagerly wanted to leave and pursue his dream of becoming a professional squash player. But he had questions: When is the right time to move from work that is comfortable to a career you have only dared to dream of? How have other people made such a jump? What did they feel when making that jump â?? and afterward?
Mike sought guidance from others who had "jumped," and the responses he got â?? from a banker who started a brewery, a publicist who became a Bishop, a garbage collector who became a furniture designer, and on and on â?? were so clear-eyed and inspiring that Mike wanted to share what he had learned with others who might be helped by those stories. First, though, he started playing squash professionally.
The right audiobook at the right time, When to Jump offers more than forty heartening stories (from the founder of Bonobos, the author of The Big Short, the designer of the Lyft logo, the Humans of New York creator, and many more) and takeaways that will inspire, instruct, and reassure, including the ingenious four-phase Jump Curve.

When To Jump is a collection of stories with the authors own jump story interspersed with other stories of people who jumped. I found the stories inspiring and moving which made for a very moving narrative. I wish Mr. Lewis would have included more stories of people who failed. This is what was lacking in my opinion. The stories where failure did take place, the people were overly optimistic which in the real world I don't think would have been the case. I would have liked to see more stories about people who failed since that is almost more of a learning experiences in life. ( )

As a person constantly thinking and dreaming of changing jobs or quitting and working for myself, I was really excited about this books premise. Sadly, it was just a mediocre collection of other people’s stories and not terribly helpful. ( )

I love Mike Lewis's WHEN TO JUMP, an inspirational book that encourages people to go after the career of their dreams. Lewis tells the stories of every day people finding their dream jobs. Through each story, Lewis discusses those who "jumped" careers and what they learned from doing so. Lewis also gives advice in his chapter "Don't Look Back" to those who decide to live the life they want. I highly recommend this creative and informative book! ( )

Author Mike Lewis creates a solid introduction to career change including stories from others who have taken the plunge to follow their passions. This January 2018 publication includes a four-phase Jump Curve along with inspiration for those looking for a career that enhancing life. For me, the book didn't offer enough concrete ideas of how to actually make a leap and serves more as inspiration versus a how-to manual. Questions such as health care, funding, and security are vague at best. The writing itself is engaging and can be read in snippets. ( )

Are you happy with your life? Are you doing the what you really want to be doing in your professional life? Mike Lewis believes most of us do have something we want to be doing to better full fill our lives. The book When to Jump: If the Job You Have Isn’t the Life You Want proposes that we can take the jump and start better living our destiny. This book gives four steps to make a good jump to the new life style.

Throughout this book Mike discusses his own jump to becoming a professional squash player. Along with his own story the book provides many examples of journey’s others have taken for each of the four steps. Mike doesn’t just give examples of great jumps but includes those that didn’t go well. It is the stories of jumps that didn’t go well that makes this book valuable.

This book helps me to understand what I will have to put into place in my life to successfully jump to another career as my professional career winds down. I am glad that I had the chance to read this book and highly recommend it to anyone who feels that they are in a rut in their work life. ( )
