I just can't get enough of this guilty pleasure! ( ) A group of extremely privileged Upper East Side sometimes-friends await the arrival of acceptance letters from the country's most prestigious universities. In the meantime virginities are lost, substances abused and gossip spread. The characters are shallow to the point of being unbelievable and it seems as if every other sentence makes reference to a Gucci clutch, Burberry bikini, or Bloomingdales personal shopper. But still this is a bestselling series and I can kind of see why. It is a mindless read and a guilty pleasure, like a Cosmopolitan magazine with a bit of a plot line. I'd read another if I came across it on the beach. Whether it's good for teenage girls, though, I have my doubts. While the book did somewhat expose the harmful nature of gossip, it also portrayed a world in which extreme materialism, over-the-top partying and casual sex are the way to get ahead. While their are better series out there, due to popular demand I would most likely include the Gossip Girl books in a young adult collection, particularly in a public library. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
