The only ones I rather liked were the title story, "My Life in Heavy Metal," and "How to Love a Republican" and, somewhat less, "Run Away, My Pale Lover." I am unsurprised to find that these were the stories that published in a couple of editions of Playboy and of Ploughshares. See my review at Fiction readings, Steve Almond. 'Master of the new urban American romance' Arena Steve Almond's stunning first collection of short stories explores the lives of young men in their twenties and thirties, their confusions, their obsessions, their emotional complexities, taking a clear-eyed view of relationships between young men and women who have come of age in an era without innocence;By turns tender and raw, visceral and otherworldly, the stories in My Life in Heavy Metal capture the moments when the fires of passion bum over and subside into the embers of pain and longing. This is a dazzling debut by a vibrant and gifted new writer. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

The stories are sometimes despairing, other times comedic, and the couples, or potential couples, range in age from teens to widowers. I liked "Geek Player, Love Slayer" about a reporter in her 30's who is disgusted by her attraction to the immature company computer guy. ( )
