This book features, Pete the Cat, the silly cat beloved by children. In this level 1 reader, Pete the Cat goes on a bug safari and finds all sorts of bugs. He ends his safari by finding and keeping a green caterpillar that he brings home to show his parents. They help him build a home in a jar for his new friend. The next morning, he is upset that the caterpillar is missing. His parents show him that it’s not missing, it has just changed and will continue to change. They explain that something new will become of the caterpillar and he would have to wait to see what it would become. He waits, and waits, and waits, and finally, he watches a beautiful butterfly emerge. Pete says goodbye to his new friend and lets it fly away. This book would be great for a butterfly lifecycle unit in any classroom! Although the characters are fictional and non-human, I would still consider this text informational. The main idea of this text how a caterpillar can change into a butterfly. Pete and his parents find a caterpillar and take it home to watch it transform into a beautiful butterfly. This is a difficult scientific concept that is portrayed well for the audience of young readers. Children are taught that change is a good thing as they grow and age. The main idea of this text is supported through the pictures and the feelings of Pete as the caterpillar transforms into its new form. The main idea is also supported through the introduction of new vocabulary such as pups. This book shows that scientific concepts can be taught through fictional characters. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
