Now she's a mortal, curtesy of a spell from a witch, and she's working at being a stripper. However it isn't easy to leave her old life behind (and there are flashbacks to her old life provided). She's also finding herself more than a little attracted to a human. It's not bad, but it didn't really make me want to read more from this series. How fun was this book??! I knew I'd probably like it, but didn't realize how much I'd dig it or how fast I'd read it. Jezebel is such a resourceful and funny character who makes her way to the big City to make it, well, big......or at least get herself off of Hell's minion's radar and stay alive. I could cringe at the way she stole an identity, stole money and credit cards before making her way to NYC, but Jezebel is a succubus, a demon, so this pretty much comes as normal for her, so I could enjoy the ride. That and I could see Jezebel changing and becoming a better person as the book continued. Heck, she made becoming an exotic dancer could be a smart career move. Loved reading the description of feeling the music move through her and using it to keep her body moving for the slavering masses. I liked seeing her inner thoughts as she conducted business, met Paul (oh, me like...me like a lot!), met the dancers, danced. She never just walks or runs, Jezebel sashayed, undulated, marched. And she more often than not purred instead of just saying something. I liked Jezebel for all her faults. She tried to be better and she wanted out of Hell. Management was making some changes and Jezebel didn't want anything to do with it. Five Hell is going to hell and Jezebel is outta here beans.... The Story: Jezebel is a succubus on the run from Hell. In order to hide from her pursuers, she uses magic to change herself into a mortal woman. Unfortunately, life as a mortal isn't as simple as she's used to--our girl needs a job. What's a former sex-demon in New York City suppose to do for a living? That's right... stripping! My Thoughts: Vaguely entertaining. My biggest beef is that the characters are underdeveloped. The love interest is completely lost on me because characters are so unremarkable and the romance completely insubstantial. The most interesting characters appear only briefly. The plot is good, if bland, but gets a bit lost in the unclear flashbacks. I, personally, hate flashbacks so I could be more biased than usual. Smut colors the whole book, which is fitting considering our main character is a succubus. However, nookie scenes come across as clinical rather than passionate. Like watching a behind-the-scenes documentary on porn. Granted, this is a first in a series, so maybe there’s hope for the future. Recommendation: Skip it. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Once upon a time, Jezebel was a powerful succubus, capable of seducing men and sucking out their souls. But that was before Hell put a bounty on her head. Now her only chance to escape a fate far worse than death is to live as a mortal, losing herself in a sea if unfamiliar humanity, in a place where sinners walk hand-in-hand with saints- a place like New York City Working as an exotic dancer is a piece of cake for a former demon who once specialized in sex. But she hadn't counted on meeting sexy Paul Hamilton, a man haunted by his past. Good-bye, succubus; hello, lovestruck. But Hell hasn't stopped looking for her. The secrets Jezebel holds are the most dangerous of all, the kind every demon in the Underworld would do their worst to protect. Demons are closing in , which is enough to make Jezebel shiver in her G-string. But it's her love for Paul that's going to have deadly consequences . . . Why was it in my TBR? Because I found it when my dad moved.
The Review:
The blurb:
Hell on Earth, Book 1
Jezebel’s not your average exotic dancer. For one thing, she’s a 4,000-year-old succubus. For another, she’s on the run from Hell (which isn’t easy to do in high heels). Hiding on the mortal coil as a human doesn’t protect her from muggers, lactose intolerance…or having feelings for Paul Hamilton, a man haunted by his past. Demons are closing in, which is enough to make Jezebel shiver in her G-string. But it’s her love for Paul that’s going to have deadly consequences. (Humans, she laments, really should come with instruction manuals.)
My impressions:
Oh. My. God. I am at loss in how to describe Hell’s Belles. Not because it is was awful. Oh no. It was soo GOOD. The best analogy is that it’s like dark choclate. Bitter, spicy, sensual. All rolled in one. Hell’s Belles is all that. It’s about betrayal, survival, love. All in one. The story starts with Jesse escaping Hell. From that point, the story takes you on a rollercoaster ride. Both through Jesse’s struggle to adapt to life as a Mortal, but also through loops to her life in Hell. The story is told in a candid way, sprinkled with humor and wit. Jesse’s past keeps on interferring her life as a human.
One detail that gave Jesse extra depth, was the mixture of cynic and naivety.
All in all, Hell’s Belles were a sensual and witty tale. Now, if you excuse me I need to get the next one! ( )
