Crafted by the creator of the beloved Mrs. Pollifax series, this little gem of a novel sparkles with romance and intrigue. The story whisks you to the enchanting rural abode known as "Thale's Folly," whose occupants are anything but fools. As you get to know these charming people and their magical home, a delicious scent of mystery infuses the fresh country air. Andrew Thale is not exactly thrilled when his overbearing father sends him on an errand to assess the property inherited from an eccentric aunt. Andrew is intrigued though, when he finds the house fully occupied. It's odd and interesting residents have a calming effect on him, especially the beautiful young woman named Tarragon. But his arrival seems to have set a series of mysterious events into motion. Narrator John McDonough's engaging performance lets you share in the excitement and camaraderie. Like Andrew Thale, you will want to linger in this mellow country haven.… (plus d'informations)

What an assortment of characters assemble to help each other with their various problems! Yes, there's a lot of self-awarenss and adventures and change for the protagonist crammed in a week's time, a love connection, and a rather too-neat ending, but I happily suspended my disbelief and went along for the ride.

Gilman seems to thoroughly enjoy telling stories, and some reading must be fun and entertaining. ( )

This was a delightful read, but not much of a mystery. Andrew is sent to his aunt's dilapidated property to assess it for sale. He was told by his father the house is old and empty so come back in one day. The house is old, but not empty. Andrew gets his car stuck in a pothole and stays the night. He meets a handful of residents living in his aunt's home, without much money, electricity or running water.

What Andrew finds, is much needed. He finds rest from a busy lifestyle and his writing muse.
It was quite the delightful story and I loved the setting and characters. ( )
