Erotic Literature. Fantasy. Fiction. Romance. HTML:

From bestselling indie author Laura Thalassa comes the newly revised and edited final book in her smash-hit dark fantasy romance between a siren and the "bargainer" she owes countless favors to.

There are worse things than death. Things that lurk in the shadows and slip into dreams. Things that once slept...but have now awakened.

For Callypso Lillis, the fae magic that now runs through her veins is equal parts curse and good fortune. While it bonds her to Desmond Flynn, her soulmate and the King of Night, it also leaves her newly vulnerable to the Thief of Souls, who wants to break the Otherworld...and Callie along with it.

But it's not just the Thief whose shadow looms over the fae realms. Des's father, the previous King of Night, has returned from the dead, and he wants revenge on the son who sent him to the grave in the first place.

Time is running out to track down both enemies and stop their plans from unfolding. Callie and Des race across realms, gathering clues and unraveling secrets, but fate and chaos are catching up to them. If they can't find a way to stop the forces working to tear them and their kingdom apart, they risk not just their lives, but the lives of all fairies...and unfortunately for them, death is no longer the worst outcome.

I would be lying to myself if I didn't say I liked these books in spite of myself. The concept has definitely been done to death, and better by other authors (Tithe by Holly Black is a great take on dark fairies and it is for young adults), but it was an enjoyable read. It mostly just leaves me questioning what is new adult as a genre how is it different from Adult romance and YA romance respectively, and why it couldn't just be adult romance?? I question the handling of certain subjects, and the messaging but that is neither here nor there. That being said this isn't something I am ever going to read again probably. ( )

First 5-star book in a while, and overall, I think i give this whole series a five-star rating. It's just ... so good? None of the plot ever became too unbelievable or a stretch. there was never any doubt that this was how things had to happen, the magic system made sense the entire time and good GOD do I need more of Des. He's the next Rhys. Not the next Rowan, but definitely the next Rhys. it was just a great story that had some great spice, but nothing that was overshadowing. If you took the spice away you still had a GOOD story which is what I really love. what I would love more, is more information on Temperence and Malakai, but I guess a girl can dream. ( )

This last book was quite the rollercoaster, parts I love other parts did make me roll my eyes or skim through. Overall a good book although it has a very steady, long build up throughout the book with a really quick (though smart and interesting) resolution that made it a little rushed and disappointing. I’ll read it again and this series has made me laugh out loud and ripped my heart out, but there’s just something missing to make it 5* ( )

Pretty solid third book in the series. There was a lot of action, too much sex, and interesting world building. My main issue is that Callie hasn't really grown as a character even though her life has done a complete 180 and she still has petty thoughts and weird self-doubt. I think Thalassa was trying to write in a sort of PTSD sub-plot from the events of book 2 but it just came up as Callie being a whiny baby one moment and then a Strong Female Character the next and the two just don't mash up realistically. There's still a strong Twilight-vibe in that you have no idea why Desmond would be interested in this woman, even if she is half-siren, because of the maturity and just years lived difference - which is probably why the author threw in the "soul mate" trope in the last book.
A fun romp in a unique world, but not one you can think too much about before ruining your enjoyment. ( )

2.5 stars rounded up. I had hoped that the series would get better as it went along, but unfortunately it never really took off for me, and this one ended up being my least favorite. Everything just felt a bit off. I'm not sure if the author had trouble wrapping things up, or if they just got carried away or what. But it just felt shakier as it went along. I thought her Four Horsemen series was interesting, so I won't swear off this author, but I think I'll be hesitant to try again. ( )
