Note: I accessed a digital review copy of this book through Edelweiss. I heard the author interviewed about his current book and was so impressed, I went looking for it. The current one, American Rule, was not in the library system yet so I took out this one, a deeply disquieting but insightful look at the 2016 election. I started and could not put it down, reading it all in one sitting. He delved into the Trump candidacy by going to rallies and immersing in the subculture of the right wing and sees what was so often missed. It is a hard read but I think he really nails it. He also has a very engaging writing style and I plan to read more of his books. An inside look at the 2016 presidential campaign from the primaries to shortly after the election. The author is a grass roots guy schmoozing with attendees at hundreds of political events. He sees and feels the anger of the Trumpites and those who "feel the Bern". The first half of the book was more interesting because the early moments are relatively unknown. The second half of the book is full of excerpts from Trump speeches and events that will probably be known to you is you are a close follower of politics. For the political junkie. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
"The People Are Going to Rise Like the Waters Upon Your Shore is a firsthand account of the events that shaped the 2016 presidential election and the cultural forces that divided both parties and powered Donald Trump into the White House. Featuring in-the-field reports as well as deep analysis, Sexton's book is not just the story of the most unexpected and divisive election in modern political history. It is also a sobering chronicle of our democracy's political polarization--a result of our self-constructed, technologically assisted echo chambers." -- Amazon.com Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
