Acker and Blacker (together with co-writer Andrew Miller) here prove that their brilliant Western-y dialogue can be applied with as great effect in a gritty action tragedy as it for years has been in their space comedy podcast "Sparks Nevada, Marshal on Mars". The story is in many ways a basic revenge western, but with enough fantasy twists in the formula to feel fresh to me. As for Christenson's artwork, it is gorgeous in the covers, but a bit too bland, understated or unrefined for my tastes in the the story proper. Still, it was servicable enough, and didn't detract from this being a very enjoyable read with perhaps surprisingly many memorable moments and lines on the way. ( )
