This poetic book invites young readers to learn about the migrations of six different creatures (insects, mammals, fish, birds), while exploring the fascinating elements of each species, its migration pattern and distinguishing habitat ranges, and its distinct and remarkable journey. The jacket states "The Journey: Stories of Migration celebrates the perfection of the natural world and the wonder of its many mysteries." The section relating to eel migration is particularly fascinating, and it describes the journey of eels from the salt waters of the Sargasso Sea to the fresh waters of Atlantic coastal streams, rivers, lakes, and creeks. Their journey is essentially the opposite of Pacific salmon who journey from freshwater to salt water, then back again. Eels are catadromous species (spawning in the ocean) and salmon are anadramous species (spawning in fresh water bodies). This topic would be interesting for classroom discussion and this book would be a great bridge between the arts and the sciences as a class assignment. 1- Summary: This book is all about the different animals, and insects migrating. It talks about how different animals migrate differently and where they go to do it. 2- Personal Reaction: I liked this book and all it's pictures. It's a really good informational book. 3- Classroom Ext. Ideas: i could use this book in the classroom when teaching the kids about how different animals migrate differently. I could also use it just for a specific animal that we are focusing on at the time. The book includes an introduction and conclusion about migration as a whole and its wonder. It then has sections about different animals and their migration stories including: The locusts, whales, eels, monarch butterflies, caribou, and terns. This book could be used all at once to discuss migration or could be used in sections based on what specific creature you may be focusing on, such as monarch butterflies. Migration is the topic of this book, explaining how some animals do migrate and how other animals do not. One example discusses the journey of how a Caterpillar turns into a butterfly. The pictures in the book are very beautiful, with lots of colors filling the pages. I like how much knowledge that can be learned from each page about the different animals. One classroom extension idea can incorporate art and science by taking the journey of the butterfly and having the kids use play dough to demonstrate the different stages of the cycle of a butterfly. Another extension idea is to discuss migration, and incorporate language arts by having the kids pick one of the animals from the story and write a story about where they would like to migrate and why? aucune critique | ajouter une critique
