Ocejo focuses on modern re-interpretations of the four jobs depicted on the cover: bartender, butcher, hair stylist and distiller. The first half of the book follows Ocejo as he interns at the different business places of interest and gets to know the employees as well as how they are re-inventing their particular occupation. The second half of the book attempts to tie all these themes together and point out the larger cultural trends that can be observed with these jobs of interest. As a whole, this is an interesting read that smartly uses different character studies to keep the reader engaged and makes each occupation more relatable. The second half is a bit of a slog and feels very academic but does present some interesting points from a larger perspective. ( )
