There's an underground black market for arcane things.  Akin to the trade in rhino horns or tigers' bones, this network traffics in remains of gryphons, faeries, goblins, and other fantastic creatures. When her fiancé Vince goes missing Angela Gough, an American criminology student, discovers that he was a part of this secretive trade. It's a big-money business--shadowy, brutal, and sometimes fatal. As the trail leads her deeper into London's dark side, she crosses paths with a crime lord whose life is dedicated to collecting such relics. Then Angela discovers that some of these objects aren't as ancient as they seem. Some of them are fresh. Gripping supernatural terror launching a new trilogy by the acclaimed author of Coldbrook ("distinct, unique, and absorbing"), The Silence ("truly addictive"), and the Alien-Predator "Rage War. "Tim Lebbon's RELICS opens a darkly beautiful glimpse into another world, one lurking in the shadows, hovering at the corner of the eye. If Anne Rice and Clive Barker had written a story together, it might have looked something like this novel:  richly imagined, fantastical, yet grounded in the grit and reality of modern-day London. I look forward to the wonders and terrors yet to come."--JAMES ROLLINS, New York Times bestselling author of The Bone Labyrinth "A magical, perilous drama full of characters who live and breathe, darkness you can feel..."--Christopher Golden, New York Times bestselling author of Ararat "Tim Lebbon is an immense talent."--Joe R. Lansdale, creator of Hap and Leonard… (plus d'informations)

Do yourself a favor and read this book. It is a great summer read that runs at a breakneck speed. I truly hope Tim rights another books in this world. Mystery, horror, fantasy and a whole lot of thrills and monsters. ( )

What starts as a almost chick lit type of romance then develops into an urban fantasy. It takes the form of an investigation into criminal undertakings in a alternate universe London. But time is it packs the pace of a thriller, and just like most bad thriller writers, it’s depiction of injury and gore is almost story threateningly self injurious. For example, one of the characters in Jose fractured skull and yet continues in a combat role through the main protagonists home. It’s the first of a series and one can see how it’s being set up. Personally I feel that this is for urban fantasy completist only, I think there are better urban fantasies out there. I’m not sure I’ll be reading much more of the series.

If you had this as a holiday read however, it’s readable and forgettable. ( )

I’m a little torn with this book. On the one hand, I love the human characters, Angela, Vince, even Fat Frederick, but when this seeming thriller becomes supernatural, the reader must completely suspend belief to accept the magical world surviving in the shadows around London. Unfortunately, I think other writers have done that better, which isn’t to lessen this book. It’s urban fantasy with believable characters, an array of villains, and a sometimes blurred line between good and evil. I enjoyed the read, but I did not realise this was a series and I’m uncertain it’s hooked me enough to continue. ( )

When Vince disappears, Angela realizes that their loving and mundane life hid darker secrets. As she pursues her lost lover, she encounters not only the dark underworld of gangsters but also the hidden world of non-humans. Can they and their love survive?

Even though this book had an original idea the execution was seriously lacking in originality. I wasn't surprised at anything that happened. I mean, of course things fall into place, of course the main character just happens to know how to do XYZ even tho it's nowhere near her skill set in life. Ugggggh. ( )
