Graphic novel about what happens when an embarrassing note falls into the wrong hands in the classroom and causes angst between a very shy girl and a very outgoing one. Emmie wasn't the most endearing protagonist. Early in the book, she makes some jokes about kids with disabilities. It's realistic that a kid of Emmie's age and background would make those jokes, but it still rubbed me the wrong way. This book is redeemed with an interesting ending that most young readers will not see coming. Overall, the author successfully captures the experience of a shy, insecure kid figuring out that she can be herself, make new friends, and have fun at school. I’m a big fan of graphic novels, but this felt more like the outline of a story than the real thing. Every character and interaction was oversimplified and leaned heavily on stereotypes. For excellent realistic fiction in graphic novel format I would highly recommend Awkward, Brave, and Crush by Svetlana Chmakova. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

This is the story of two totally different girls -- quiet, shy, artistic Emmie and popular, outgoing, athletic Katie -- and how their lives unexpectedly intersect one day, when an embarrassing note falls into the wrong hands. All the crushes, humiliation, boredom, and drama of middle school are compressed into one surprising day. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
