Yay for Nakatsu! I really am proud of him, and Mizuki too. I was worried she would waver and get involved in some stupid love triangle, and that Nakatsu would make it worse by being a jerk. But he's not, and she's not. They're both very mature and responsible.

I'm also proud of Sano for maturing. He and Mizuki are so cute.

I don't know about that weird interlude with the treasure hunt though. It was right in the middle of an important plot and I was really confused for a minute... just odd placement. ( )

We join Ashiya as she is still being embraced by Nakatsu, who is earnestly asking her to forget Sano and choose him, instead. Gently, Ashiya tells Nakatsu that it's not possible, and he smiles and tells her that he expected her to say that, but he had to try. Nakatsu leaves, and is scooped up by his roommate, who helps him back to their room. Meanwhile, Sano is running, furious with himself for snapping at Ashiya when she was just trying to help. The next day, they are both awkward around each other, trying to figure out when to apologize. Sano talks to Shin and makes peace, only to have Ashiya run into him and announce that his dad collapsed and is in the hospital. And then ... the volume randomly switches gears and tells a story about the three dorms competing in a treasure hunt. This story occupies a few issues, and while it is hilarious, and I ended up really loving it, the transition was awful. I notice that it begins with issue #100 of the manga, and I assume that it was a special or holiday tie-in or something, but it is abrupt. We get a few words from Ashiya explaining that it happened during a particular period of the school year, which leads me to believe that it is a flashback, but following the cliffhanger of the previous issue this story felt very out of place. I wish she had waited to resolve the Sano family story line before introducing it. Nonetheless, it is a great Hana Kimi story, and I soon fell under its spell and was laughing aloud. Once this segment is over, we return to Ashiya's startling declaration. Sano acts as if he will refuse to go, and Ashiya puts on her rare tough act, reaming him out for not going to his dad. Of course he goes, and of course he is grateful to Ashiya. Sano and his dad reconcile, and Ashiya and Sano are good again. I really enjoyed the stories in this collection, despite the odd insertion of a completely unrelated story. This lowered my appreciation, but the quality of the interruption tempered my disapproval. On the whole, this is a good edition of the series. ( )
