After suffering a cataclysmic earthquake, the U.S. government has deemed Gotham City as uninhabitable and ordered all citizens to leave. It is now months later and those that have refused to vacate "No Man's Land" live amidst a citywide turf war in which the strongest prey on the weak. As gangs terrorize the ravaged populace, the Scarecrow uses a church relief project as a real life lab to test his experiments in fear. An interesting take on Gotham being decimated by natural disaster and then unaided by Federal force. The city is divided into fiefdoms, many controlled by super criminals from Batman's rogues gallery. (

An amazing collection of stories that kicks off the No Mans Land story arc. With plenty of supporting characters involved, Batman tries to make sense of & then recover parts of Gotham after it has been abandoned by the authorities. Really this is an anthology of stories centred around this theme. Survivalism, moral dilemmas, mixed & conflicting agendas abound, with great questions being asked and often not answered. Very, very good. The only thing which let's it down slightly is some of the art. Otherwise, an excellent collection of pieces, and a must for the true Batman fan. (
