Dans ce roman très habile, El Akkad raconte la Seconde Guerre de sécession des États-Unis. Basée sur une prémisse tout à fait crédible, l'histoire repose sur des circonstances politiques, économiques et sociales contemporaines et le déroulement de l'intrigue est, de toute évidence, inspirée par les témoignages que l'auteur a dû récolter lors de sa carrière journalistique. Il y a des scènes très dures, mais c'est un livre qui vaut qu'on s'y attarde. ( )
