Short, creepy, and weird. Is the house haunted or is the man haunted? What is going on? It’s like Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House and Stephen King’s The Shining merged, mutated, and then that product was edited by Hemingway (while he was very, very drunk). ( )
So much of the story is hidden beneath the surface, it's difficult to understand what's happening until you get most of the way through the book. However, the last third of it makes it all worthwhile. ( )
