the prose is not Coruscating. The plot is limp, and the whole production uninviting. Something is invented to turn the tables on the baddies....ho......hum. ( ) This is the final book in the direct line of Lensmen books that started with 'Triplanetary', and is the cumulation of the eons long conflict between Arissia and Eddore The Arissians have finally developed the final end point of their breeding programmes and it's the children of Kimball and Clarissa Kinnison who have become the hope of Arissia against the alien blobs of Eddore as the latter throw everything against the burgeoning Civilisation that has suddenly overthrown millions of years of planning. Is the prose purple? Hell, yes!! The Lensmen books are the epitome of the definition of Golden Age Space Opera where your hero was square jawed and as straight as they came with no moral ambiguities and perfectly capable of whipping up a death ray at the drop of a hat or lending a shoulder for a damsel in distress to cry on as the situation required It's not particularly sexist though if you consider the times it was written in and while Civilisation is clearly human lead, I don't feel it's particulary Humancentric I managed to read the entire shitty series. Thank God it's over. I'm so happy this volume gets awarded an extra star. If you have got this far then you may know that he planned a final volume but never wrote it down because he thought it unpublishable, hallelujiah. I think the children would all have to fuck each other. All future humans would then descend from them. How else could negroes be bred out of the species? God help us all. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

It was beginning to look as though no one could prevent the annihilation of the civilized Universe. For a weird intelligence was directing the destruction of all civilization from the icy depths of outer space. Kim Kinnison of the Galactic Patrol was one of the few men who knew how near the end was. And in the last desperate stratagem to save the Universe from total destruction, he knew he had to use his children as bait for the evil powers of the hell-planet Ploor . . . Children of the Lens is the sixth self-contained novel in E. E. 'Doc' Smith's epic Lensman series, one of the all-time classics of adventurous, galaxy-spanning science fiction.
