Veel familiegeheimen en een liefde die eeuwig durend is. Richard is een Amerikaanse jongeman die als uitwisselingsstudent terecht komt in Hamburg. Daar leert hij de jonge Cornelia kennen en ze worden hevig verliefd. Als het noodlot Hamburg treft in de vorm van een heftige watersnoodramp (De vloed: waargebeurd) worden ze gescheiden. De een denkt van de ander dat ze het niet hebben overleefd. Jaren later heeft Cornelia een kleine boekhandel, een man en een dochter, Alexa. Als Cornelia moet besluiten welke boeken ze zal inkopen, komt ze ook een boek tegen van een schrijver met de naam Richard Henderson. Ze komt erachter dat Richard nog leeft en ondanks dat ze beiden een gezin hebben, besluit ze Richard te gaan zoeken. Dat is het begin van een reis die heel veel gevolgen zal hebben. Alexa komt achter de hele geschiedenis door de dagboeken van haar moeder en de verhalen van Richard. Prima boek dat goed in elkaar zit. Il tema di fondo è un po' triste, quasi dickensiano, e cioè la vanità del legarsi a tutti i costi a un sogno d'amore vero ma irrealizzabile, mettendo a repentaglio non solo il costro qui e ora ma finanche il futuro di chi ci ama e vive accanto a noi aucune critique | ajouter une critique
