Reading the book this place I know I did not expect it to turn out like this. The book full of poems of comfort is an amazing one. Georgia Heard selects poems by children who have witnessed the world trade center tragedy and has the illustrations done by 18 different renowned picture book artists. I would have to admit that this book has given me comfort in some hard times. I do not believe it is only for people who have suffered by the tragic events that have happened on that horrible day but for anyone who has recently lost a loved one. What I believed to be the best part of the book is that I shows grief being dealt with from different point of views. best part for me is that the book includes poems which look at grief from all angles: from words about crying and despair to lines about the fact that there is hope and not everything is lost. The language in this story has a huge effect on the story. The fact that this is the language of young children should be enough. These poems are mainly written using familiar language and that is why we can tell that children have written these poems. The formality of the language in the story matches that of the situation. For example, in the poem “A Little Girl’s Poem”, Gwendolyn Brooks says “I do not want fire screaming up to the sky. I do not want families killed in their doorways.” This little girl is referring to the tragedy. ( )

This compilation of poetry was created to help children who experienced the September 11th attack in one way or another cope. These poems all have a theme of comfort. They are designed to create a sense of peace within people whose lives are in utter chaos. These poems can be used for comfort outside the realm of the World Trade Center tragedy. I think any school counselor needs this book in his/her office. ( )
