This is a very good short book about the life of J.Gresham Machen. His history is amazing from his childhood to his later years after being unceremoniously kicked out of Princeton and for that matter, the Presbyterian church. Oh that we would have principled men to stand like J. Gresham once did, without the fear of favor of men! While I am not a huge fan of the layout of the book with the "guided tour" idea that Nichols uses, overall it is well worth it and an easy read that will teach you much of this church leader! ( )

Nichols does a very good job of introducing the reader to theologians of whom he may not yet be familiar. He does so again with J Machen Gresham who was the last of the Princeton Conservatives. Machen was a giant in his time, but probably is not well known outside of Presbyterian and Reformed circles. Nichols does a good job of introducing Gresham and world view, along with his writings. Nichols makes a comparison between Machen and Luther and does a good job in backing up his thoughts. This is a entertaining and extremely readable account from which much can be learned. (I read most of it on a flight to Romania for a missions trip.) ( )
