Cowboy Small taught us vocabulary words, especially about horses. Nice.

Farmer Small has no hired hand and no family? So unrealistic.

Mr. Small has a little Auto. It is red and shiny. He likes to look at it." What an adventure Mr. Small has, just to drive to town and stop for a newspaper! Thank goodness cars no longer need so much TLC.

In The Little Sailboat we had a good chance to learn more about sailing and boats, but the vocabulary words were insufficiently supported.

I liked The Little Airplane best. It's definitely a fantasy, but at the same time one can learn something about those little old airplanes. There's even a labeled picture!" ( )

A bit dated, but they're cute and well suited for early readers even if bordering on too long. The best one was [b:Policeman Small|42448|Policeman Small (Mr. Small, #10)|Lois Lenski|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1169881244s/42448.jpg|3221508], relating Mr. Small's day as a policeman hour by hour. My son didn't connect as much to the cowboy story, understandably. This collection contains the original versions of the stories, where the illustrations are usually in a single shade of color. Illustrations may not be as flashy as in the later versions, but I liked that style. ( )

My boys loved all of these books and it's a great asset to have three in one. I've read these stories more than I can count. ( )
