I experimented with a lot of the recipes in this book many years ago. Some of them turned out well; others, not so well. Still, it's a good book overall, although possibly a bit dated now. ( )

This book is such an important reference book. I found my copy at a thrift store, I think it's out of print now, but if you can find it it's worth having.
It has everything in it. A very extensive list of plants and their herbal uses, information on the proper way to collect and store the plants, and tons of recipes for everything that you could possibly want using materials that are easily found.
Recipes include, creams, facial masks, herbal steams, lotions, astringents, waters, aftershaves, soaps, lipbalms, toothpowder, natural toothbrushes, all kinds of makeup recipes, remedies for acne, wrinkles, freckles, eczema, psoriasis, shampoos for various hair types, conditioners, hair dyes and rinses, oil treatments and conditioning packs, remedies for various hair and scalp problems, herbal baths, powders, massage and bath oils, colognes and purfumes and sun protectants. There is a section on skin types and the recipes to use for each type.
In the back of the book there is a very amusing section on the historical use of cosmetics used in magic. You can make love charms and invisibility ointments LOL
