A really unique take on a murder mystery---a story within a story. Totally enjoyable and engrossing. A great read ( ) Puhas kuld! Ja seda ütleb inimene, kes ei loe krimkasid. Tegelikult on see lausa kaks krimiraamatut ühes, sest lugu algab sellega, kuidas ühe Londoni kirjastuse toimetaja sõidab nädalavahetusel maale, kaasas värske käsikiri, mida ta lugema asub. Äärmiselt nauditav ja kaval lugu, kust aju leiab peale nutika loo ka muud, mille küljes mekutada :) 3.5 but not quite 4. My inadvertent year of reading mysteries continues with Magpie Murders. This story is about the editor of a series of whodunnit novels who gets wrapped up in a real life mystery. It's a novel within a novel and has enormous cast of characters but I enjoyed it quite a bit. By the end I was a little anxious for it to wrap up and felt it took a shade to long to get to the point but mostly it was an intriguing book. This book was quite a twist having a mystery book within a mystery book. Even after reading the description of the book Magpie Murders, I was a little confused when an editor was introducing a different book than the one written by Horowitz. I thought this was a clever twist on plotting from the author. I can't help but wonder if Horowitz was poking fun at whodunnit books... and himself.
A preternaturally brainy novel within a novel that’s both a pastiche and a deconstruction of golden-age whodunits. Bestseller Horowitz (The House of Silk) provides a treat for fans of golden age mysteries with this tour de force that both honors and pokes fun at the genre. HTML: Soon to be a series on PBS MASTERPIECE! "A double puzzle for puzzle fans, who don't often get the classicism they want from contemporary thrillers." â??Janet Maslin, New York Times New York Times bestseller | Winner of the Macavity Award for Best Novel | #1 Indie Next Pick | NPR best book of the Year | Washington Post best book of the Year | Esquire best book of the Year From the New York Times bestselling author of Moriarty and Trigger Mortis, this fiendishly brilliant, riveting thriller weaves a classic whodunit worthy of Agatha Christie into a chilling, ingeniously original modern-day mystery. When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the bestselling crime writer for years, she's intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan's traditional formula has proved hugely successful. So successful that Susan must continue to put up with his troubling behavior if she wants to keep her job. Conway's latest tale has Atticus Pünd investigating a murder at Pye Hall, a local manor house. Yes, there are dead bodies and a host of intriguing suspects, but the more Susan reads, the more she's convinced that there is another story hidden in the pages of the manuscript: one of real-life jealousy, greed, ruthless ambition, and murder. Masterful, clever, and relentlessly suspenseful, Magpie Murders is a deviously dark take on vintage English crime fiction in which the reader becomes the detectiv Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
