Review: Where Is She by Roger Rapel. 2.5★'s 03/16/2017

If I was reviewing this for myself I would be offended. They listed it as a mystery, however I would go a little further and say beware: plenty of graphic sex scenes and I thought it should have been listed more than a mystery. I think there were more pronounced sexual contact then the mystery plot itself. I found it well written and I did enjoy the mystery, suspense and crime part of the story. However, I thought the end was cut short leaving a cliffhanger for the reader.

The story is a detective investigation in a fifteen month open case of a missing person, Janet Crosby. Jim Broadbent is the detective given the old case to see if he could see more in the paperwork then the original investigator. Broadbent was a good officer but his behavior around women was egotistical. Wherever he went and who he worked with he had plenty of comments. Jim Broadbent worked for his department and his boss would loan him out to other agencies as M15 and the CIA. So, he was working on the missing person case with a partner when he was called away on another assignment. Before he left he read the information on the boyfriend of Janet Crosby and his gut feeling was telling him the boyfriend, Charles Sumner was somehow involved.

The story was fast paced with plenty of action and more than one person was missing. The investigation led them to five missing women and somehow Sumner found himself being questioned once again. However, he only answered, no comment. They seriously needed to find evidence and his partner did all the legwork and was connecting several issues leading back to Sumner. Broadbent was off and on with the case of the missing women because his undercover job took a lot of his time and he was feeling like he was being used for a patsy.

Broadbend’s character lifestyle was like spooning honey out of jar. Yes, his job was dangerous but he got plenty of luxury wherever they sent him. He did have a girlfriend, Jacky that he lived with and she was getting tired of his nights away and she had to live with the fact he couldn’t tell her what he was doing or where he was. He was amazing how he maneuvered around his jobs and covered his tracks bedding women one after the other. The author never held back on any of the sex scenes that she woven in this mystery like an everyday thing. With the case of the missing women there were more graphic sex scenes being taped….more sex than mystery…. ( )

Interesting read!

The book is well-written, and it is filled with mystery, suspense, crime and more - it covers several sensitive topics. The story is fast paced, and captures you in the moment. I enjoyed reading this, but had to stop reading at times, when some very sensitive topics popped up, as it can be quite confronting. There were some grammatical mistakes and lack of punctuation when needed, which did make the book just a little bit less enjoyable, particularly when you have to re-read those sentences a few times to make sure that you have got the right meaning behind it, or understood what the author was trying to convey. This book also contains several sex (or lovemaking) scenes, so read at your own risk.

I look forward to reading other books written by the same author, Roger Rapel; in particular, "Cindy, Where Are You?", which focuses on the same main character as this book - with him solving other cases (I'm not sure if the books are part of a series?).

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. ( )
