When I look over this body of work that I'm still in the process or producing, one things strikes a recurring note: this work is part of a life, my life and my life is what it is because it is shared with a sensitive and caring and loving individual who reminds me, just by being, how lucky I am. PREFACE: The work docmented in this book represents nearly twenty-five years of personal and artistic development that had its roots, I think, in the purchase of Marrguerite Ickis' 'The Standard Book of Quilt Making and Collecting' when I was an undergrauate art student in the late 1960s.

I started out BELIEVING that there was enougth inherent DIGNITY and VALUE in the medium, in its HISTORY and its METHODS, to justify a dedicated and continued INVOLVEMENT.

Since my work deals with COLOR and LIGHT, it could be realized in paint. But that isn't all that the work is about--only part of it. It's also about an ALTERNATIVE to the mainstream, about choices made so that the PERSONAL and the PROFESSIONAL, the growing of relationships as well is the growing of a career, could CO-EXIST."
