This thoroughly enjoyable volume of Johnson's complete works contains the second half of his contributions as The Rambler -- a bi-weekly publication that consisted of a long essay in the voice of the anonymous Rambler or one of his correspondents (who usually were also Johnson). The topics are often moral, sometimes with a pious bent, but more often with a humorous one. Throughout we see Johnson's love of language and his unique ability to pull a great aphorism out of thin air. The mid-1800s are when the world of literature and writing started becoming more recognizably modern, and these essays in particular would fit right in with today's internet culture of blog posts and hot takes centered around a recognizable personality. Long life Dr. Johnson! ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
