The original version ended up being much more different than I thought. ( )

This sleeping beauty book is very similar to the Disney movie where I watched most of my fairytales growing up. There are some differences for instance instead of just sleeping beauty sleeping for 100 years the whole kingdom falls asleep too. Also, because this is a Grimm Brothers story it has a darker vibe and the illustrations also have a darker look. We see that many princes try to save the princess but many of them died this doesn't happen in the Disney version. In the end though the prince and the princess live happily ever after. The illustrations in this book had a darker look to it and it also seemed more renaissance style. ( )

It was about a kingdom that the king and queen wanted a child. The queen encountered a frog and said she will be granted a child within the year. A child was born who was a girl. The kingdom threw a party and the fairy that didn't get invited put a spell on the girl that when she turned 15 she would prick her finger on a spinning wheel and lie dead. This then occurred on her birthday and she lied asleep thanks to another fairy how altered the curse. Then after many many years a prince comes and kisses her then she wakes up and the curse was lifted. They got married and lived happily ever after.

"The Sleeping Beauty," begins with a king and queen who have been blessed with a beautiful daughter, which they have desperately desired for a long time. After their daughter is born, the king decides to hold a great banquet and invites everyone. He asked the wise women of his kingdom to come as well and wish their daughter well. There were thirteen wise women in the kingdom, but only twelve golden plates. Therefore, one of the wise women was not invited. After the banquet, the women began giving their magic gifts to the baby. At last, the wise woman who was not invited wanted revenge. So, she walked in and said "When the kings daughter turns fifteen, she will prick her finger on a spindle and fall down dead," then left. Fortunately, there was still one wise woman who had not given her gift yet, so she softened the spell since she could not break it and said instead of the girl dying, she will fall asleep for a hundred years. On the girls fifteenth birthday, she discovered a tower and inside was the wise woman who put a spell on the girl. The woman was spinning a spindle and the girl asked to try. Obviously, she pricked her finger and no sooner fell fast asleep, as did the rest of the people in the whole castle. From time to time, Princes tried to come rescue the girl but they got caught in thorny hedges and died a miserable death. At last, another prince came to the country and was told the story of the sleeping beauty. He was warned not to go near the castle, but he insisted. However, the hundred years passed, so when the prince arrived, the castle was surrounded with big beautiful flowers. He walked into the castle, found sleeping beauty and kissed her. She woke up as he kissed her, as did the rest of the people in the castle. Sleeping Beauty and the Prince fell in love and got married. The author brings romance and adventure to this retold story of sleeping beauty. The illustrations provide readers with a beautiful image of the story to go along with the tale. ( )

This is the classic tale of sleeping beauty. She is 'pricked by a spindle' on her 16th birthday and is sleeping until a brave prince comes and kisses her which causes her to open her eyes and "live again". The story does have some twist and turns and obstacles that causes other princes to not be able to save her, but in the end she lives happily ever after. ( )
