"No matter how hard he tries, Jimmy Yee cannot die. A noose around his neck, a razor across his wrist, and even a bullet to his head all yield the same results: he awakes from each suicide attempt, miraculously unharmed, in his shabby room at the Sunbeam Motel. Has he gone mad? Or has he truly died and found himself in hell? Jimmy is willing to tear the world down around him to get at the truth. Highly analytical and utterly unscrupulous, he is uniquely suited to unraveling this bizarre mystery. From the brilliant and profane mind of Jason Shiga, known for his high-concept graphic novels, comes Demon: a four-volume magnum opus about the unspeakable chaos that one indestructible man can unleash on the world and the astronomical body count he leaves behind"--Provided by publisher.… (plus d'informations)

Demon's story begins with Jimmy. Jimmy is attempting to commit suicide in a hotel room, only to wake up the next morning. He tries again, and again, and again. Slowly he begins to realize that something is very, very wrong. Jimmy has just discovered he is a demon. As a demon, he has the unique ability to possess the body of the nearest individual to him when his current host body dies. Consequently, Jimmy cannot die. But they're on to Jimmy, and Jimmy will have to use every resource, every body at his disposal to live on, after all.

Demon Volume 1 is quite the graphic novel. The forward of the book says it all - "If you are a child (infer sensitive to gore and/or death, penises, etc.) please put this book down slowly and walk away.." Yet there is something quite fascinating here. While the reader may - perhaps, should? - cringe and gag while observing Shiga's depictions of suicide and murder, they can't help but be sucked in. It will be very interesting to see where Demon travels in the next volumes. The body count will be high. Very. High. ( )

reviewed from uncorrected egalley.

graphic novel. NOT FOR KIDS. Clever and original new series that will make you root for the main character, even though he's horrible. ( )

Yeah, I needed this. I forget why I put it on hold in the first place, but I'm happy that past-kate was on the ball. This is a hilariously dark book about a guy who learns that when his body dies, his consciousness just moves into the next person over. Jimmy gets pretty adept (and real creative) at killing himself, it's pretty impressive. I'm rooting for him through his blatant disregard for human life. ( )

Shiga's artwork is just a little too goofy for me, but it can't hinder a story that is irresistibly over-the-top amoral and violent. It seems like anything can happen here, and I'm ready to follow the saga to the end. ( )

Reminded me of [book:JTHM: Director's Cut (Johnny the Homicidal Maniac) JTHM: Director's Cut|19567410], but slightly less dark and definitely funnier. Still incredibly violent. ( )
