In gritty, star-spread future, where mankind has colonized planets throughout the galaxy, former Confederation Commander Jon T. Munro was serving a life sentence for a war crime he was forced to commit. When a prison break runs amok, however, he seizes the opportunity to escape with a ragtag team of cons to form a small crew of pirates with one goal in mind: vengeful justice. And the first step in their plan is to steal the battle cruiser he once commanded, a state-of-the-art warship they call "The Jolly Roger." A visually stunning sci-fi adventure, written by Sylvain Runberg (Millennium), with breathtaking artwork by Miquel Montllo, this epic tale of space pirates and political intrigue combines the emotional depth and excitement of sci-fi favorites such as Battlestar Galactica and Starship Troopers, with a visual style that leaps off the page like an animated feature film.… (plus d'informations)

It is far future and human space is controlled by Confederation. At its head is President, for all means and purposes tyrant. As a result of his rule rebellion is brewing and in one of the main battles one of the generals, Munro, is ordered to execute the destruction of entire city. He executes the order against his wishes - his appeals to reconsider being dismissed by the President - and in aftermath gets sentenced to prison because of the war crimes.

Then we move several years after that event. Rebellion executes the raid on prison colony in order to extricate four of their leaders. While this fails, unexpected group does manage to escape - Munro and 3 more prisoners that find themselves with him at the time. Presence of Munro with them will mark them all as enemies of the state, to be killed on spot. Only way is to take over the advanced battleship Munro commanded in his last battle and find refuge amongst the stars. Unfortunately things will take a very serious turn .....

Art is beautiful, reminiscent of Treasure Planet and Atlantis movies. Light, characters, environments are all drawn beautifully.

Story on its own is an action story, very much in vein of old samurai or western movies. Group of misfits thrown together, finding themselves fighting against bigger, almost invincible enemy. While art is cartoonish, events taking place are very mature - there is murder, scheming, assassinations, blackmail ...

Highly recommended. ( )

I really enjoyed the artwork in this book. It reminded me of a film the way it was laid out. The characters were nicely developed. I am interested in learning more about each of them as they develop through the series. I think the story was well thought out too and I will definitely read the next books when they come out. I received a copy through NetGalley for my honest review. ( )

2.5 stars. As I was reading this I kept thinking of Firefly and maybe a little Farscape with a little Avatar thrown in. Because escaping convicts has never been done before. *inserts sarcasm* ( )

Very generic SF shoot-em-up. I just didn't care about any of the characters and all their running around. Yawn. ( )
