Both the story and illustrations are charming. ( ) PJ Library Mrs. Goldman made Sophie a hat when she was a baby, and has made her more hats as her head has grown. Mrs. Goldman makes hats for lots of people - but she's given away her own hat, and Sophie is concerned, as they walk Mrs. Goldman's dog, that her keppie is cold. So, Sophie uses the skills Mrs. Goldman taught her and makes her a hat. She drops a lot of stitches, but that's okay - she covers them with pom-poms! Mrs. Goldman, predictably, loves the hat, and proclaims it a mitzvah. See also: Mitzvah Pizza by Sarah Lynn Scheerger, The Mitten String by Jennifer Rosner What a marvelous book. It’s just lovely. I loved both Mrs. Goldman and Sophia. Fifi the dog is adorable. I especially appreciated how in the back where the author and illustrator bios are, it’s revealed that the illustrator learned to knit in preparation for his illustrating this book. I appreciate that kind of dedication to the work. The author is an experienced knitter. This story is full of warmth and humor. I adored the dog’s dinosaur sweater. So cute! The last two pages of the book are directions for making a hat like the one described toward the end of the book. It calls for wool yarn but luckily for vegans there are many gorgeous, soft, warm, and fine vegan fiber yarns available that could be used to make this hat. It’s pretty cute and looks reasonably easy to make. I think it’s designed for beginners. Great story for those interested in books about being giving, being kind, being good neighbors, intergenerational friendships, dog characters, and those with any interest in knitting or learning to knit. It’s a sweet story. The illustrations are charming and pretty. They’re full of life and humor and emotion and wonderful detail. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
