This book, though dated, gives facts about the Mexican history, culture and geographical features. ( ) Mexico: The Culture written by Bobbie Kalman explores the heritage, music, literature, religion, holidays and festivals of Mexico. This survey book is organized into 15 subtopics. I found that the organizations of the subtopic were logical and progressed smoothly through-out the book. The relationship between the subtopics is clarified through-out the text, for example, the text begins with an exploration of ancient Mexico and explores the writing, religion and rituals of the Maya and the Aztec, the focus on writing, religion and rituals continues through-out the text connecting the civilizations that influenced Mexican culture. The coverage of the subtopics is well-balanced and well written. In particular, the subtopic focused on Mexican holidays. Although the Mexican holiday, “The Day of Dead” was discussed in this section of the text, I felt that there should have been more information. The pictures, however, were well selected, but once again, I wished there were more. Overall, his book would make a great addition to any classroom library. In particular, a social studies class or a world geography class. I used this book as an “early finishers” option in my kindergarten classroom. My students enjoyed looking at the colorful pictures and asking me about Mexican culture. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
