There is just something so beautiful about a person beating the odds and succeeding despite emotional, physical and financial limitations. I received an ARC of Touched by Love by Melissa Foster in exchange for an honest review. Touched by Love is a wonderful expression of the power of the human spirit. I love strong female characters and Janie fit that bill perfectly. She has struggled most of her life to be seen as an independent woman. Blindness has not stopped her but made her work twice as hard to fulfill her dreams. Melissa Foster did well in creating a character that may see the world differently but was an inspiration in that she used the abilities she had and did not let the one she didn't hinder her. That pride having been a plus in some areas also proved lacking in that she refused to ask for help when needed. In retrospect She and Boyd shared that trait. Boyd may not have had any physical limitations but he was emotionally closed off due to events in his past and determined to make a better life for himself. Knowing Janie and seeing first hand all she went through to get ahead in a world that was not always tolerant and kind to people who are different helped him become a better person. Having someone believe in her and not coddle her made Janie a stronger person. I enjoy every book I read by Ms. Foster but of all the stories I've read by her and there have been many, Touched by Love is my favorite. Anytime an author can move a reader to tears and teach them something along the way, you know you've found something special. Wow! If any book proved how excellent Melissa's writing is, this one is it! To write so perfectly about living your life slowly going blind without experiencing it yourself is amazing. Janie suffers from a degenerative eye disease that has slowly taken her sight. She is the most amazing, tough, independent woman I could ever imagine. She has taken steps to move away from her overprotective family and out on her own but while minimizing risks to her well being. Boyd has both emotional and physical scars from a tragedy that happened in his childhood. He has had trouble moving past this and letting people in to see the "real" him. Janie is injured but doesn't want to accept help but Boyd insists. This story is wonderful! A journey of two individuals with their own baggage & issues as they learn to let each other in and find a path to happiness. This has become my favorite Melissa Foster book! It pulls you in from the very beginning and keeps you enthralled until the very end. Loved it!! Melissa Foster is back with a new Remington story and it's an amazing story of courage and overcoming some of the toughest obstacles a person may every have to face. Janie Jansen is one of the top technical writers for her company, has a great friend network and is a fiercely independent women on the road to success and a wanna be romance writer, the fact that she is blind hasn't slowed her drive to be free; free of her over protective parents, free of pity and free of people believing that not being able to see, means that she is less of a person! Boyd Hudson is a firefighter and a consultant to the same company that Janie works for, he looks like a man who has drive, determination and looks like he hasn't a care in the world! Though that is very far from the truth; Boyd is haunted by a tragic accident that claimed his parents lives as a child and still lives with the trauma of that today. He avoids every kind of commitment that could stop him from aching his goal of becoming a Doctor. Janie and Boyd always had a fun co-worker relationship and maybe a little flirting thrown in, until a accident changes all of that and they realize they mean so much more to each other. But will Boyd's overprotective nature and Janie's fierce independence be their downfall? Now I know I say this with all of Melissa Foster's books, but I truly loved this book! So much so it reduced me to tears. I loved the way that the perceptions were reversed and that the one person who looks like they have it all together, is the one that is falling apart on the inside! I loved the way the characters were sweet and understanding towards each other and just how much their love bloomed. The writing was smooth and flawless and the plot was without holes, though I would have loved to read a bigger seen between Janie and her parents. I also loved the introduction of Amber and her service dog. But oh boy! Did Kiki steal almost every scene she was in! Oh my goodness she was a riot! I give Touched by Love a very well earned 5 stars! In Foster’ s latest, she shows us that confidence is sexy in the case of blind Janie and fire scarred Boyd. Searingly hot and equally sweet, these two get together and the pages turn quickly. Foster shows what it is like to be blind while maintaining independence while developing a sexually, charged romance. Fans will not be disappointed! A blind heroine who is able to manuever her way around NY independently and doesn't take help from anyone. A consultant at her firm has been watching her but hadn't wanted to start anything because he was hoping to move away to attend Medical School. They are friends but nothing more until one night she has a dangerous fall in the subway and he just happens to come along right behind her.
She is a strong and independent woman despite her blindness and he is a strong, kind, generous and encouraging man. Together, they make the most wonderful couple and the Happily Ever After is well worth the wait. ( )
