Till skillnad från böckerna verkar serierna som Bioware låter ge ut i sina världar inte riktigt ha något vidare syfte än att vara goda historier. Böckerna ger bakgrund till gestalter som dyker upp i spelen och förklarar delar av historien närmare, medan serierna verkar vara mer av äventyr på egna vilkor. Så även i Magekiller, som handlar om Marius och Tessia, specialister på att söka upp och döda magiker (det framstår som de har vissa skrupler om vilka jobb de åtar sig, men jag skulle inte svära på det).

I vilket fall: de hamnar först i Tevinter, där Marius tydligen en gång varit slav och tränats i det som nu är hans yrke, och jagar där Venatori. Därefter måste de fly söderut, och hamnar i kaoset som uppstått sedan Corypheus rivit ner slöjan mot drömvärlden och gröna portaler börjat spy ut demoner. Till slut rekryteras även de in i Inkvisitionen och får där göra insatser, bland annat tillsammans med Dorian och Krem.

Som sagt, det är oklart riktigt vart det här syftar: är det främst för att ge ännu en glimt av Tevinter? Att visa upp vissa figurer som i spelen kanske borde fått lite mer utrymme (fler än en bekant dyker upp, ibland oväntat)? Det är en habilt berättad historia, vilket i sig egentligen är nog, men lite undrar man om det inte borde till lite mer än så. ( )

Not much to this story. There's a couple of "magekillers", assassins-for-hire that kill mages. They are hired on a regular basis while they are on the run from previous employers who want to kill them.

So, the biggest problem I had with this book is that not a single story is completed, except for the maybe the last one. What happened with the group that tried to kill them near the beginning? What happened to the mages they were supposed to kill, but didn't? How did they end up in one city, when the end of the previous issue/chapter had them somewhere else? It was so very disjointed, and so many threads left hanging. Very sloppy. (If I was writing/editing this book, I would have turned it into a grand conspiracy, with the "bad guys" being manipulated by even "badder guys" behind the scenes. I know that's tried and true trope, but at least it's something to tie everything together into one cohesive storyline.)

Its one redeeming factor: the artwork was good. ( )
