Sir Charles Sheridan is many things-an amateur scientist, a renowned photographer, and a skilled detective. And due to Victorian customs, he will soon become a baron-rendering him unable to marry American writer Kate Ardleigh. But even as customs keep them apart, a good murder case always seems to bring them together... The Countess of Warwick, known affectionately as Daisy, is the subject of endless rumors about her unladylike ways and temperament. But what happens during a weekend party at her Easton estate is uglier than any rumor. First, a stable boy is killed. Then a nobleman is murdered outside Daisy's well-known trysting spot. A murderer is on the grounds-and on the loose. Seeking to avoid scandal, the Prince of Wales orders Sir Charles to solve the case. Together, he and Miss Ardleigh find that even the highest levels of society are no refuge from the lowest of deeds... Susan Wittig Albert and Bill Albert, writing as Robin Paige.… (plus d'informations)

This is the 3rd in this series and I enjoyed the first two a lot more. At times, this book felt very "educational" in terms of how the history of the time period was written. A good story but too dry in too many places. ( )

Kate and Sir Charles are falling more in love, but Kate is sure that Charles will be put off by her secret writing career and he is sure that she will be put off by the fact that his elder brother is dying and that he will inherit the barony. Meanwhile, they are both guests at the home of the Duchess of Warwick, who is mistress to the Prince of Wales. When a stableboy is found dead and his death is followed by the murder of one of the guests HRH orders Charles to solve the case, sparring 'Daisy" the scandal of being a suspect. ( )

I'm really loving this series by Robin Paige. The stories are fast paced, the characters are well thought out, and the time period is a perfect setting for the series. ( )

I didn't expect much from this diminutive book so I was pleasantly surprised that this Victorian murder mystery was able to develop the main characters and was historically correct. I will read another Robin Paige book. ( )

Synopsis: Kate and Charles find themselves invited to a weekend party that includes the heir to the throne, the Prince of Wales, and Daisy Brooke, the Countess of Warwick. The Prince is not at all pleased when one of his groomsmen is murdered and asks Charles to look into the matter. Another murder follows, shortly, and it appears that Daisy is being framed. Fearing an implication of the Prince, Charles and Kate begin interviewing servants and wealthy, alike, discovering a tangle of misrepresentations, half-truths, and lies that characterized the society of the Marlboro set.
Review: This is a nice look at a piece of Elizabethan England history, particularly since it is a plausible explanation of the actions of the Prince of Wales and the Countess of Warwick. This time period is a bit irritating since women were expected to swan around, never openly presenting themselves as intelligent people. I get weary of both males and females dancing around what they want to say. ( )
