Lacy Stoltz is an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. She is a lawyer, not a cop, and it is her job to respond to complaints dealing with judicial misconduct. After nine years with the Board, she knows that most problems are caused by incompetence, not corruption. But a corruption case eventually crosses her desk. A previously disbarred lawyer is back in business with a new identity. He now goes by the name Greg Myers, and he claims to know of a Florida judge who has stolen more money than all other crooked judges combined. And not just crooked judges in Florida. All judges, from all states, and throughout U.S. history. What's the source of the ill-gotten gains? It seems the judge was secretly involved with the construction of a large casino on Native American land. The Coast Mafia financed the casino and is now helping itself to a sizable skim of each month's cash. The judge is getting a cut and looking the other way. It's a sweet deal: Everyone is making money. But now Greg wants to put a stop to it. His only client is a person who knows the truth and wants to blow the whistle and collect millions under Florida law. Greg files a complaint with the Board on Judicial Conduct, and the case is assigned to Lacy Stoltz, who immediately suspects that this one could be dangerous. Dangerous is one thing. Deadly is something else.… (plus d'informations)

This book is about a whistleblower. The story involves an organization that investigates (potentially) corrupt judges in Florida. Two of these investigators receive a complaint about a judge who is involved in an embezzlement scheme. When they start to investigate, they discover that a casino on an Indian reservation may be involved, but they need to obey tribal laws. There are several players involved in the scheme and once they find out about the investigation, things get dangerous. ( )

I was recommended this book by GoodReads, so thought I'd give it a try. I listened to it on audio, and enjoyed that format very much. This book is well-written, and a page-turner. Grisham has delved into the world of corrupt judges in this one, and we meet Lacy Stoltz, a woman who is willing to take on this particular judge. Little does she realize the cost that will be incurred by doing so, and little does she realize that her life and the life of people that she loves will be placed in grave danger. Lacey is a lawyer for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct (FBJC). Her job is to investigate and put a case together to gather information on corrupt judges in the state of Florida. She doesn't carry a weapon, and she usually works with one other person, not a whole police force. Then she and her partner Hugo meet a formerly disbarred lawyer by the name of Greg Myers and things start to get really dicey right away. They find out that this particular judge is affiliated with a notorious Florida crime boss and his many crooked family members. It turns into a deadly cat and mouse game that has Lacey dodging assassination at every corner. This is apparently the first book in a new legal thriller series written by Grisham. It was a great listen, and i will continue this series. ( )

As with most Grisham books - the characters pull you into the story. This was a thrilling listen. ( )

This was a fantastic book. Not loaded with the authors liberal beliefs, and it gave a nice insight into the laws, or lack there of surrounding casinos on Indian land.
This is a quick read as it sucks you in fast. ( )
