"From the international bestselling author of Unraveling Oliver, an "unputdownable psychological thriller with an ending that lingers long after turning the final page" (The Irish Times) about a Dublin family whose dark secrets and twisted relationships are suddenly revealed. My husband did not mean to kill Annie Doyle, but the lying tramp deserved it. On the surface, Lydia Fitzsimons has the perfect life--wife of a respected, successful judge, mother to a beloved son, mistress of a beautiful house in Dublin. That beautiful house, however, holds a secret. And when Lydia's son, Laurence, discovers its secret, wheels are set in motion that lead to an increasingly claustrophobic and devastatingly dark climax. For fans of Ruth Ware and Gillian Flynn, this novel is a "seductively sinister story. The twists come together in a superbly scary denouncement, which delivers a final sting in the tail. Brilliantly macabre" (Sunday Mirror)"-- "Psychological thriller about a woman whose son discovers a secret that threatens her perfectly happy life"--… (plus d'informations)

Praying Mantis par Domini Taylor (bluepiano)
bluepiano: A mother every bit as horrid as the one in this is up to similar shenanigans, although in Praying Mantis it's unloved daughter rather than beloved son whom Mom torments and betrays. Taylor's book is funner.

Psychological Thriller
  BooksInMirror | Feb 19, 2024 |
This story was excellent! Liz Nugent wrote an amazing psychological thriller. Lying in Wait completely exceeded my expectations. From the very beginning, the story is shocking and took me on an unexpected journey. I loved every minute of it!

The book is set in Dublin, Ireland with a family at the center of the story who are not as they appear. Lydia’s husband, who is a judge, kills a woman. Lydia loves her role as wife, mother of their only son, and the beautiful mansion she has called home for most of her life. This family has so many secrets with pure darkness at the core.

I wish I could say more, but I don’t want to reveal any spoilers. I purchased this audiobook from Audible based on the genre and knew very little about the plot when I started listening. I’m so pleased I didn’t know what I was getting into with this book. I think it made my experience with the story all the better.

Liz Nugent made this psychological thriller stand out from the rest by covering decades of this family’s life. I truly appreciate that it was so much more than the murder that initially enticed me to read this book. While I’m always hoping for that happy ending with any book I read, I knew I wasn’t going to get it with Lying in Wait. In this situation, I think the ending was very fitting.

The audioboook performance was outstanding with narrators Caoilfhionn Dunne, David McFetridge, and Lesley McGuire.

I have photos and additional information that I'm unable to include here. It can all be found on my blog, in the link below.

I got this book as an ARC on 2018. It got moved down my TBR stacks as I continued to get more books. I read Liz Nugent's newest book, Strange Sally Diamond, then her first book, Unraveling Oliver. What an amazing writer! I found this book when I was rearranging my books, saw that it was Liz Nugent's second book. I sat down with it earlier today and just finished it! I literally couldn't put it down. Lydia Fitzsimon"s husband, Andrew, a respected judge sets into motion a dark downward spiral of their family and their secrets. I couldn't figure out how the author could possibly end this book but boy, she took it in a direction that made me gasp!!! Highly recommended! ( )

Wtf?!?!!! This book was so messed up. This is the 2nd book I’ve read from this author, and now I get it. She’s Gillian Flynn level of fucked up— and I kind of love that. Although, woah, this book may have gone too far....

You know how authors are always evil laughing about doing mean stuff to their characters?? This author takes it to a whole other level. These poor people!! ( )

The book was really really good. Had some slower parts I sort of skimmed over and kept going...but the ending was just like ...well, damn. Thats how life does go, sometimes. ( )
