I enjoyed this book. The characters are well done and drew me into the story.
It's a bit different than the average mail order bride book in that Katie starts out the book married and pregnant. She is widowed that same day. Still, she thinks she might be able to make it work until she loses her maid job unexpectedly. Luckily, she has a friend who looks out for her.
At this time in history, women did not have the options they do today, So at some point, Katie decides that her best option is to go west to marry her friend's cousin in California. But she refuses to be honest with her future husband which leads to each of them suspecting the other. ( )
