Given the opportunity, would you assume someone else's identity and leave your old life behind? A serendipitous crossing of paths between Lisa Barnes, a down-on-her-luck job seeker, and Julie Forman, a personal trainer to an Olympic hopeful, forever changes the course of both women's lives. One winds up dead and the other finds herself a fugitive, hiding behind one lie after another as a cold-blooded killer methodically hunts her. Desperately trying to stay alive, the terrified woman enlists the help of Forensic Instincts, a rogue investigative team that clandestinely operates in the gray area between legal and illegal. Safeguarding their client's deception, Forensic Instincts digs into dangerous territory as they try to find out who's after their client--and why. Meanwhile, bodies are piling up in Chicago, New Jersey, and Vermont as a megalomaniacal genius will stop at nothing to eradicate anyone who threatens the success of his medical breakthrough. With an unhinged client and a monstrous criminal enterprise as its adversary, Forensic Instincts is forced into uncharted territory to protect their client and save one of their own from becoming the next corpse. Forensic Instincts is an unorthodox, criminal investigative team that carefully navigates the fine line between legal and illegal. From my blog

The Forensic Instinct team can do no wrong, absolutely love these characters. Andrea Kane makes me feel at home and her writing immediately grabs me and I'm in the comfort of m book journey with this team, I am one of them....

I really enjoy the fact that all the cases are so different and then a race against the clock, these kind of suspense thrillers I live for. The FI team live by there own rules to help the innocent, very unorthodox but you love them all. The banter between them is great, sarcastic, funny, professional, an overall refreshing edgy group.

We meet Lisa who becomes FI new client. Finally her life is moving in the right direction and then she sees her look alike get killed. She makes a run for it but changes identity in hopes that her past will now be buried. Well the fear of her past doesn't compare to the fear she will have against the murderers which are high up on the Russian Organized Crime groups.

The new member of the team Emma, sees an article and immediately has connection with Lisa due to her past life. Her colleagues does a little investigating and soon realizes Lisa and her friend Miles are in danger and need their help.

Organized Crime is very scary, talk about brutal with no feelings. They will do whatever it takes to keep their boss happy and his research secret. Innocent people involved in research that becomes a matter of life or death.

I highly recommend this series but you should read in order. Andrea Kane does a fascinating job at building the characters, moving along the personal storylines while keeping you on the edge of your seat with the case of each book. It brings a genuine touch to the stories as you really start to care for the team. I think it is great execution with the balance of description, dialogue, plot and interesting characters. ( )

The story plot is captivating! The characters are well-defined...some you will delight in, others you will detest! Somewhat like real life!
The author has captured personalities which draws the reader into the story. The mystery, suspense and action steadily moves along. It is a tale about the repercussions of individuals who have survived the Foster Care program, which is sometimes abused.
Lisa was desperate to find a real job. After days of searching and interviewing, she received an unexpected "break". A week later, she is running for her life. How could this happen?
The special team of geniuses organized to investigate various crimes was made aware of Lisa's plight. Should she trust them to help? To whom else could she turn ? How many more lives would become endangered.
The suspense increases after a few more twists in the story occur. The story is well written, the Title does not quite fit, the Book Cover is okay but not eye-catching to the "browser". Although the story keeps the reader's interest, the story seemed a little drawn out in places. Reader Beware: There is profanity and a few sexual situations and innuendos.
I can still offer a Four Stars rating using literary objectivity..
This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. ( )

What is Forensic Instincts? They have formed a private investigation firm of professionals trained in behavioral and forensic psychology who are not bound by the same bureaucratic red tape as the police, FBI, and Special Forces. They can move forward and get things done while law enforcement’s hands are tied. The team has a Behaviorist, a former Navy SEAL, a retired FBI agent; a technological guru; a psychic, and even an evidence dog. Emma is one of the newest members of the team. At one time, she’d been a foster child and knew the hardship endured by many. Upon hearing of the murder of a woman who’d been a foster child, she asks the team if they can dig into and find out who killed her and why.

Lisa Barnes, down on her luck, had been looking for a job. She thinks her luck is about to change as she finds work at Designer Fitness. The owner, Julie Forman, and Lisa have a strong resemblance. Julie immediately bonds with Lisa. Until Lisa can stand on her own financially, Julie offers that she can stay with her for a while. But, Lisa is running from something and soon, it has fatal consequences for Julie. Lisa witnesses Julie get shot down. She grabs any ID that Julie has on her and flees to her techie friend, Milo, who creates an identity for Lisa to become Julie. That also requires moving and creating written communication that she had to leave town suddenly. When law enforcement finds Julie’s body, it is Lisa’s identification they find on her and assume it was Lisa that had been killed.

This story becomes complicated very quickly, but in a good way. The pacing is fast, and it’s remarkably character driven. I love everyone on the FI team and I really liked Lisa and her friend, Milo. Some aspects of the story were not entirely believable, like asking someone you first meet to move in with you, no matter how temporary you believe the situation would be. Also, I felt the likeness between Lisa and Julie was a bit of a stretch. This is the fifth book in the Forensic Instincts series. They can be read out of order as each one is a complete story on its own. However, the first book, The Girl Who Disappeared Twice, is when the FI team came together and I’d recommend starting there. This is an amazing series. My hope is that it will live for many years to come. Rating: 4 out of 5. ( )

In The Murder That Never Was, the fifth book in the Forensic Instincts Series, author Andrea Kane weave a riveting psychological thriller that features identity theft, performing enhancement drugs, a drug cartel, a megalomaniacal research scientist, emotional issues involving the foster care program, and an unorthodox criminal investigative team who is determined to protect their client.

The Murder That Never Was is an action packed and fast paced gripping tale that transports the reader to Chicago, where they follow the trials and tribulations of Lisa Barnes when she assumes the identity of personal trainer Julie Forman, who is murdered for investigating an Olympic trainer who is giving his star athletes PEDs. Lisa and Julie have an uncanny resemblance to each other, and after Lisa witnesses Julie's murder, Lisa and best friend Miles "Milo" Parker, leave Chicago and restart their lives running a fitness facility in Upper Montclair, NJ. But trouble soon follows Lisa/Julie, and she enlists the protection of the Forensic Instincts private investigation firm, a rogue team consisting of a behaviorist, a former Navy SEAL, a techno-wiz, an intuitive, a pickpocket, a retired FBI agent, and a human scent evidence dog, who conduct a dangerous criminal investigation to uncover who is after their client.

Author Andrea Kane weaves a riveting psychological tale that has enough drama, mystery, suspense, intrigue, and surprising twists and turns that easily engages the reader to follow the rogue Forensic Instincts team as they investigate the reason behind the identity switch of their client, and who is behind the murder of the original Julie Forman. When you add in the mystery behind the murder, the hidden secrets involving the making and distribution of PEDs to Olympic star athletes, Lisa's dark past, and the suspense and danger of the criminal investigation, you get an explosive story that takes you on one hell of a thrill ride, and a book that you won't be able to put down!
