This is a reboot of Constantine, the start of this so far isn’t as dark as the original one. The take on this has John fighting a demon that is eating ghosts that he knows. This version is introducing new characters that know John and also work magic but were not in the previous books. This take is interesting and I want to see where it goes. Digital review copy provided by the publisher through Edelweiss John has always been a favorite. He's such a rich character, various iterations have worked (though Jamie Delano is my fave era) well.... This "new, modern take" - what, because there are smartphones? - is a great place to start if you can't handle little/no technology, or you've just not read Hellblazer before. Kinda like starting Doctor Who with no. 9. Oh, and the love interest? Refreshing. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Jump into the opening chapter of this wickedly funny and racy modern reintroduction of John Constantine! The dead can't die again-even within the supernatural circles that surround John Constantine, some things are impossible. But when the ghosts that haunt the occult detective start being murdered, it becomes clear the rules have changed. Far worse than ordinary death, this second death means oblivion-no afterlife, no way back. To stop it, Constantine must explore the barriers between the mundane and the extraordinary: the thin places. The investigation takes the Hellblazer from New York City back home to London, where he joins up with an old rival, now an exorcist in Her Majesty's Secret Service. Their dark, tangled history together is filled with music and magic, failed friendships and disastrous romance. But even if Constantine somehow survives the supernatural serial killer, the price involved could leave whatever's left of his soul beaten and broken. Features celebrated writers Ming Doyle (THE KITCHEN) and James Tynion IV (BATMAN ETERNAL) and acclaimed artists Riley Rossmo (PROOF) and Vanessa Del Rey (HIT). Characterization: Bland. John Constantine's worst character traits have been mellowed out here, and when you take away Constantine's worst traits there ain't much of him left. Also, there was scant effort put into making him sound British, let alone like a Scouse.
Art: Not good. Constantine looks like a square-jawed hipster.
To sum up: This isn't Constantine's worst outing, but it's far from his best. I just think it's a little sad that a character whose books used to carry a mature audiences label is now in books which make the YALSA Great Graphic Novels for Teens list. ( )
