"The newest, highly anticipated novel from beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author, Colleen Hoover. Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most. Lily hasn't always had it easy, but that's never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She's come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up--she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily's life suddenly seems almost too good to be true. Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He's also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn't hurt. Lily can't get him out of her head. But Ryle's complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his "no dating" rule, she can't help but wonder what made him that way in the first place. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan--her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened. With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price"--… (plus d'informations)

The Short Version:
Deeply and integrally NOT FOR ME ( )

Lily Bloom grows up in a household where domestic violence against her mother by her father is commonplace. Her refuge is her love of gardening and watching her seeds grow. As a fifteen-year old high school sophomore, she is startled to recognize a boy she knows from riding the school bus living in an empty house across from her home. His name is Atlas and she provides him with a place to shower, food and water when her parents aren't home. Atlas is determined to finish high school and join the marines, and his relationship with Lily grows into a first-love romance that neither will forget even when he moves to Boston to live with his uncle. As an adult, Lily opens a flower shop with the help of a new friend. She meet a man named Ryle, who seems to possess all the qualities she wants. She also encounters Atlas as the owner of an upscale restaurant that they frequent when they move to Boston. She is thrilled when they marry, but soon discovers his dark side when he assaults her. She forgives him twice when he promises to control his anger. His final brutal attack on her is brought on when he thinks she is seeing Atlas, and she leaves him. That is when she discovers she is pregnant with his child.

The ending is well written. Should Lily believe him and raise their child together or should she learn that she can't trust him and live on her own? This is a well-written novel about the far-reaching effects of domestic violence. We may be wondering why the police weren't called when the abuse occurred; however, we can't know what repercussions the victims may have feared. It is hoped that people who commit domestic violence will be held accountable, and that their victims will receive the help they need. ( )

This book hurt to read. Definitely a crying book. It was almost wrong, the way I couldn't stop reading it but I really wanted to because I could feel the pain building.

A beautiful romance leads to a heartbreak all the more awful because of the good times before. A powerful story full of honest emotion rendered by an author who has lived through it. I know women who've been abused. I know men who've hit. This book is terrifying and heart-wrenching and beautiful and terribly real. ( )

Something worth mentioning is that Colleen writes this book so personally and eloquently that you'll feel as though you are Lily Bloom experiencing everything firsthand. From topics such as domestic abuse to childhood trauma to rape, etc, Colleen provides different perspectives to all these situations, making them applicable to complex situations that occur in real life. Instead of opting to judge the victim for remaining in their undesirable situation or developing resentment for the abuser, Colleen allows the audience to empathize with all of the characters by making them aware of people's past traumas and how they led to the development of their character. Colleen practically obliterated the black and white mentality some of us carry by allowing the audience to put themselves in other people's shoes for once. Love love love this book with all my heart!
