It shows that this book is for younger grades but I believe we can use this in 4th-6th grade even upper grades. It illustrates and explains a very good story about 100 ants trying to get to a picnic but because they taking too long, they divide into rows. 2 rows of fifty than 4 rows of twenty, and so on. Since they took all the time to split into rows all the picnic was gone and they chased after that one ant that made them split into groups. It is a very fun book to read aloud, it shows multiplication and division in a fun creative way and even shows great illustration for students to be able to see how the ants are grouped. In this story the littlest Ant tries to get all of his ant friends to move faster to the food by having all 100 ants get into different sized rows. The concept of splitting into smaller groups by using ants trying to get to the leftover picnic was quite darling. However, at the end of the story all of the ants realized that they took up so much time getting into rows that they missed out on all of the food and then they chase after the little Ant. I was quite pleased with the story up until the very end. The little ant worked diligently to get his team organized and was, essentially, attacked at the end of the story. With a different ending that proved the point that things are faster when put into groups this book would have been more useful in the classroom environment. The illustrations, however, were quite lovely. I appreciate their simplicity while at the same time very clearly showing the expressions on the ant’s faces. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
