Fiction. Romance. HTML:The long-awaited sequel to My Sweet Audrina, one of V.C. Andrews's strangest, most beloved booksâ??and now a Lifetime movie! Whitefern swallowed Audrina's childhoodâ??and now the sprawling Victorian mansion threatens her adult life too...
Audrina remembers a better time, when her husband, Arden, was a young man with a heart filled with devotion for her. He didn't used to be this ambitious, expansive...this cruel. But then, the death of Audrina's father changed a great many things.

When the reading of her father's will reveals that Audrina herself will control fifty-one percent of the family brokerageâ??the halls of Whitefern again don't feel safe. Arden's protestations become frantic, nearly violent. And while Audrina didn't anticipate running the family business, she's curious to do so. And she can't help but wonder what had made her father change his will at the last minute? What did he know about Arden that she didn't?

Trapped in the middle of it all: her fragile, simple sisterâ??the beautiful, trusting Sylvia. Audrina promised her father she'd watch over the young woman. But after years of relative quiet, the dark days of Whitefern may have

It's been at least 20 years if not more since I read My Sweet Audrina. I can't say I remember every detail about it but I remember that I liked it very much and so was quite anxious to read the sequel.

Audrina's life as a married woman has not seemed to mature her very much. She has much of the same naiveté and innocent too trusting nature of a young girl.

Her marriage to Arden has not turned out as she had hoped and although her father has left her controlling interest in his business she lacks the drive and maturity to do anything about it. She spends most of her time caring for her developmentally challenged sister but due to her own too trusting nature she is not as vigilant in protecting her as one would hope.

If you read the first book then this is certainly worth a read but I found the plot quite predictable and it was fairly obvious how it would all end.

I received an advance copy for review. ( )

Another win for V.C. Andrews. Whitefern has the same feel as the old V.C. Andrews I read when I was a kid. This is a continuation of Audrina. Audrina is grown and married, taking care of her sister in Whitefern. Come on this wonderful journey and learn all the secrets that still permeate the walls of Whitefern. Who will get caught in the web of deceit? ( )

When I found out that there was a sequel to V. C. Andrews' "My Sweet Audrina", I had to run out and get it. "Audrina" was one Andrews actually wrote herself before she passed away, so it holds a special place in my heart. This one wasn't quite as good, and it was terribly predictable, but it was still fun. Audrina is all grown up and her father passes away, leaving the majority share of his stockbroking company to her rather than her husband, Arden. Arden is incensed and demands Audrina sign over her share of the company to him so he can run it properly, but Audrina shows some spirit and holds him off. In the meantime, she hires an art tutor for her developmentally disabled younger sister, Sylvia. Audrina soon discovers the art teacher is molesting Sylvia and that she is pregnant. Since she and Arden have been having issues conceiving, Arden convinces her to pretend she's pregnant and they'll raise Sylvia's baby as their own. ( )

I abandoned this halfway through, because as thrilled as I was to see a sequel to My Sweet Audrina, I was even more infuriated as I read this book that it was ever published. This novel is an obvious cash-grab for readers of V. C. Andrews's best book. The ghostwriter abusing her name and memory here clearly didn't even bother rereading the original! Here are the errors apparent just in the first few chapters:

1. Audrina was taught she was the younger sister of the departed Audrina, not older.

2. Arden's mother and Audrina's father never got married. (This is mentioned at least three times -- ugh.)

3. Sylvia is intimated in the original to have fetal alcohol syndrome. In this novel, she suddenly is a high-functioning autistic who has learned extensive verbal skills. Autism would not explain the obvious things wrong with her at birth in the first novel, as autism is not visible at birth.

4. Arden really became a jerk, and why? No backstory for the drastic personality change is given. It's like he's a new cardboard stand-in for the "abuse Audrina" trope.

Avoid it. Cherish your memories of the one good V. C. Andrews novel by steering clear of this mess. ( )
