The story is set in occupied France in WWII. A clandestine group of OSS agents are on a mission to track down and interrogate a Nazi traitor about a weapon that once unleashed upon the world could bring down the whole allied forces under the thumb of Hitler. The agents happen to be young women. This book is full on intrigue and lots of blood, be prepared for the brutal portrayal of killing in this book, it does not gloss over the details. There is lies and deceit all through out which makes it a hard to put down read. This is a work of fiction but the OSS was a real organization which infiltrated the Nazi regime and gathered the information for the allied forces. This should be on everyone’s TBR. ( )

This book was a great historical with a strong female presence. I was so intrigued by the story line that I found myself trapped within the mystery. Each page I was trying to piece together the timeline and person's of interest. I was pleasantly surprised by how unpredictable it all was.

If you are female rights advocate or a feminist at heart, you will eat this story up. Even if you aren't, it will lend a new appreciation for women heroes that made a huge impact on our history. Lucie will forever be one of my favorite characters. Her strength and perseverance was nothing short of amazing. I loved the twist and turns and found myself inspired by the friendships.

It wasn't an easy story to read, but after finishing the final page, I had a new appreciation for something that was so secretive. I think all readers need to study this subject and dive deep into the impact of females. It was a great historical with seasoned writing. I highly recommend it. ( )

Based in WW2, Lucie is shipped over from America to aid the Allies in defeating Nazi Germany and regaining power for the French. She's an expert in torture, disguise, and murder. With the other girls of the Covert Ops, she is charged with winning the war for the Allies. Until they are betrayed.

This novel has some amazing plot speed and even more amazing twists. While it might not be entirely historically accurate, this novel would be fantastic for someone who is a reluctant reader. ( )

This novel is historical fiction, set in Occupied France during WWII.

Lucie’s brother was killed by the Nazis, so she joins an American government agency as a spy. The novel begins with a job she’s been given--kill a traitor. She’s been told that killing gets easier, but this first time to take a life makes Lucie shake and hesitate. When she returns to headquarters, she knows she might not be promoted to “Agent,” but she finds her leader extremely angry with her. Problems quickly develop, giving Lucie a chance to redeem herself. One of their agents has been captured; several will go and try to rescue her. Lucie is sent on a different mission.

Lucie and another agent, Sabine, are sent to take a defecting Nazi officer to the British. They must traverse France with Nazis everywhere, find the Nazi officer, and secret him to a submarine. The situation turns dire quickly. One of the Nazis from Lucie’s earlier mission recognizes her, so she and Sabine must escape and get to the coast within a short time period. If I tell anymore, I’ll give away all of the surprises that the novel offers.

Lucie really isn’t a good spy. Everything goes wrong in most of the novel. As the novel progresses, the reader learns more and more who to trust and who not to trust. It’s a novel that shows how dangerous and violent war is. Those who survive war are wounded, especially within, considering what one must do in war situations. Killing should be hard and unwanted, but war makes people do what most would never do. It’s a pretty good novel with a really great cover. ( )

Richmond is always reliable for a good historical read. The other one that I've read of hers was alternative history which was also pretty good. And a kick butt heroine is always a good thing. ( )
