"A deluxe edition of Frost's early poems, selected by poet David Orr for the centennial of "The Road Not Taken" For one hundred years, Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken" has enchanted and challenged readers with its deceptively simple premise--a person reaches a fork in the road, facing a choice full of doubt and possibility. The Road Not Taken and Other Poems presents Frost's best-loved poem along with other works from his brilliant early years, including such poems as "After Apple-Picking," "The Oven Bird," and "Mending Wall." Award-winning poet and critic David Orr's introduction discusses why Frost remains so central (if often misunderstood) in American culture and how the beautiful intricacy of his poetry keeps inviting generation after generation to search for meaning in his work. For more than sixty-five years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,500 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators"-- "The Road Not Taken and Other Poems celebrates the 100th anniversary of "The Road Not Taken," published in the August 1915 issue of the Atlantic Monthly. This volume presents Frost's essential early poems, selected by award-winning poetry critic David Orr"--… (plus d'informations)

On one hand, I read [a:Robert Frost|7715|Robert Frost|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1183232004p2/7715.jpg] many years ago. Perhaps I remember it all. I could tell you that say this is all just refreshing my memory.

Or perhaps I don't remember a thing of it, other than the vague idea of The Road Not Taken and nothing more.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

And perhaps it doesn't matter which road I took, I could always tell you I took the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.

It's an interesting poem with about the opposite message most people think it has and probably the best of the bunch. I like a number of the others as well though.

I WONDER about the trees.

For the most part, I strongly prefer poems with a structure cadence and rhyming patterns. But some of the free form stuff works for me as well.

White as the only race she ever knew.
Black she had scarcely seen, and yellow never.
But how could they be made so very unlike
By the same hand working in the same stuff?
...
For, dear me, why abandon a belief
Merely because it ceases to be true.
Cling to it long enough, and not a doubt
It will turn true again, for so it goes.
Most of the change we think we see in life.
Is due to truths being in and out of favor.

Worth reading at least once, I'd say. ( )

Frost was actually pretty good, but unfortunately, he suffers from the same tragedy other "masters" do - extreme overexposure. How many times and years do you have to study the damn thing until your appreciate turns to outright hatred? Nonetheless, recommended for those not yet braindead from having this pounded into you for far too many consecutive years... ( )
