Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast race through the fridge to get the last drop of maple syrup...but while they battle, Baron Von Waffle gets there first. Rhyming text with a good rhythm (see also: Interstellar Cinderella). We also read the sequels, The Case of the Stinky Stench and Mission Defrostable. Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast are great friends... until they hear that there's only one drop of syrup left and they fight over who should get it. This picture book follows them as they race through a landscape of food to try to get to the syrup first. The text is rhyming couplets telling the story of their journey past (and sometimes into!) all the other food, and it is charming and funny. The illustrations are excellent. Of course in the end the two friends decide maybe sharing would be better than fighting, and the story does an excellent job of avoiding making the message in the end too (wait for it) syrupy. Heee. Recommended. Another destined for the nieces. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast have a beautiful friendship--until they discover that there's only one drop of maple syrup left. Off they go, racing past the Orange Juice Fountain, skiing through Sauerkraut Peak, and reeling down the linguini. But who will enjoy the sweet taste of victory? And could working together be better than tearing each other apart? The action-packed rhyme makes for an adrenaline-filled breakfast!"--Provided by publisher. This book is about french toast and pancake racing and challenging each other when they find out that one drop of syrup is left. This book also rhymes so it makes the story funnier.
In my classroom I would use this book as a circle time book for entertainment more than to teach my students about a certain topic. It does have the theme of sharing and friendship though. ( )
