When I was growing up, I used to enjoy watching Saturday afternoon horror movies. Back then, there were plenty of great, obscure movies to choose from and all of them are largely forgotten today, except in the hearts of horror aficionados and cult movie lovers. Reading "Black 21" by Nancy Glynn took me back to those days and gave me the feeling I used to get when I anticipated the next wonderful low-budget, atmospheric and sometimes foreign, horror movie to grace my small newly-color TV set.

Once I started reading "Black 21," I felt like I was in a surreal landscape. One of real, and perceived, terror and menace. One from which I couldn't escape. As much as I kept wanting to tell Daisy to wake up, get away, run.... I also wanted her to stay. To find out what was going on in this weird little town, where evil forces have been at work for centuries.

Ms. Glynn has a very unique and mesmerizing way of telling a story and quite without realizing it, you're so caught up in the strange, dark and twisted events, that you find you can't escape and are as helpless to control the next turn of the page as Daisy is helpless to control the increasingly weird and dangerous situations she's in. I found myself very intrigued by this town and these people and can't wait to read more of the Golden Hill Legacy series.

Nancy Glynn has created an astounding world! A world of good and evil, romance amid danger, friendship in peril alongside fear of betrayal and sinfully delicious desires. All this and more pops straight off the pages of Black 21, a paranormal romance that is SOOOO much more than what its simple genre label would imply.

Daisy Lock, the protagonist, becomes swiftly immersed in a strange new world while staying with her aunt and uncle in Golden Hills, Illinois. While she quickly discovers that all is not what it seems, the journey she undertakes to understand things ushers her into an alternate universe that just might contain the answers to questions she's tried to ignore since her childhood. The sexy and mysterious Christian, his stalwart friend Eric who falls for Daisy as well, the nefarious but sultry Charlotte, Daisy's cousin Dane, who loves her too, yet what should she make of the disdain mixed with hatred she sees in his eyes? And then there is Jack Red, about whom nothing more should be said so as not so spoil things..

Black 21 is a page-turner, with the reader barely able to stop moving forward. I intended to read this over the course of a week, and found myself riveted, the story pouring forth so briskly I couldn't stop thinking about what might happen next while I was NOT reading, the hallmark of a fabulous book. Even now, writing this review, my thoughts are still among the characters, which makes me happy there are more related stories by the same author. Enjoy! I certainly did, and especially the naughty parts! ( )

Very well written paranormal romance with an excellent plot and a well created world to get lost in. A fast moving story with many twists and turns that draw the reader in. Plenty of action and characters that are well developed. Good vs. Evil with a well created ending. A very enjoyable quick read for adults only 18+. Highly recommended. ( )

I am not one to read paranormal books, but this one caught my attention. The story is about Daisy who decides to visit her aunt and uncle in a small little town tucked away from the world. She is asked to do something quite strange and thus takes her on a journey of terror, mystery, supernatural beings and down right scary things.

She meets Christian and is drawn to him with emotions that she has never experienced before. What connection do these two people have? What evil is about to happen on someone's twenty-first birthday? Was a deal made a long time ago so sinister that it could be dangerous for Daisy? There is an evil spirit just waiting for the right moment to make its move. Who will this plan involve? It seems there is someone from Daisy's past about to wreck havoc in the town and no one will see it coming.

The author does an amazing job of writing a dark , twisted tale that leaves you wanting to read more. The characters are quite interesting and she writes the most prestine evil chatacter I have read in quite a while. His mere presence is enough to send shivers down your spine and a scream stuck in your throat. This book is not for young readers as it is filled with mature subject matter. I won't give the story away, but I will say for all those who love paranormal books, you will not be disappointed in this heartstopping story.

The writing moves fast in this book! There is constant action and no over detailed lulls. That brings me joy. I like my fair share of detail but I also like a story that is constant pow pow and leaves you reeling. This book definitely achieved that.

I liked Daisy from the beginning. I hated what happened to her but realized that in the end love can be selfish. Love can make you overlook consequences. Love can make you justify doing things that you otherwise wouldn’t. The theme there is consistent with this.

This author has real talent with drawing you into caring for the characters. I felt a connection with Eric and Christian as well as Daisy. I even got invested in minor characters. That’s a big plus.

My favorite part of this book is that it ends happily. I like a happy ending. That will always earn points with me. Especially when little kids are on the line in a story. I have a tender heart when it comes to that.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book. I found it hard to put down and really…isn’t that what we are all looking for? Another world to get lost in?
