Salem, a recovering alcoholic, embraces the Alcoholics Anonymous program and uses her religion to help her get through the tough time. The story follows the typical plot for a cozy mystery but includes swear words, sex, a strong religious theme, and a dog. The tempo is slow but steady. This is book one in the Trailer Park Princess Series. I received this book through a random giveaway. Although encouraged as a courtesy to provide feedback, I was under no obligation to write a review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Salem Grimes, the overweight alcoholic who finds a body at the bottom of the church stairs as she is going to an AA meeting. Salem becomes involved in solving the mystery as the prime suspect is her ex-husband who she knows wouldn’t kill anyone. In order to get around she teams up with 80 year-old senior citizen. Fun, fast paced read. Enjoyable mystery, with well thought out characters. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Tony Solis has been accused of murder, and Salem Grimes just might be his last, best hope. But Lord have mercy on anyone who has Salem for their last hope, because that girl is a piping hot mess and always has been. Everyone knows that, including Salem. But Salem is trying. She quit drinking, and she even started praying. Maybe if she can help prove Tony's innocence and find the real killer, it would balance out some of the mistakes she's made in her past -- a past that includes betrayed best friends now bent on vengeance, ex-crushes who were supposed to be old and fat by now, and an ex-husband who might, possibly, be an ex after all. If Salem can catch a break from reaping all the wild seeds she's sown, she might have a chance to redeem herself. Then again, maybe she should just settle for being a piping hot mess... This is the beginning of a series about Salem Grimes, a recovering alcoholic with a dodgy past and a history of bad choices. But. It's also a story about living in a Texas trailer park, a unique story with a mix of mystery and gospel, about a spoiled dog named Stump, and the much older investigating partner. This is a hilarious tale full of laughs and well worth the money.
Sandra Murphy is a great narrator who really makes the real characters come alive and really adds to the fun and suspense.
